WHY:
NOLA Bike to Work Day will raise awareness about the benefits of biking and regional developments that are making biking easier and safer for all.
Before Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans had approximately 11 miles of bicycle paths. Thanks to a grant from Entergy Corporation and a partnership between the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Public Health Institute, the city now boasts over 50 miles with more planned or under construction.

For its efforts, the City of New Orleans has been designated a Bronze Level Bike Friendly City by the League of American Bicyclists - joining other cities such as Portland, Boulder and Austin who are designated bike-friendly cities. In 2012, the Alliance for Bicycling and Walking Benchmarking Reported ranked New Orleans tenth nationwide for the highest number of workers commuting by bike

1515 / 1555 Poydras

REMINDER – Blood Drive Today

April 2, 2013

Today from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm 1515 / 1555 Poydras Buildings will be hosting a Blood Drive.

The Blood drive will take place in the 5th Floor Auditorium of 1515 Poydras Street.

PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A BLOOD REPLACEMENT FOR 6 YEAR OLD HALEIGH MARTIN

On July 10, 2012, Haleigh was diagnosed with a rare disease known as Moyamoya.  Moyamoya syndrome is a disease in which certain arteries in the brain are constricted. Blood flow is blocked by the constriction, and also by blood clots (thrombosis). In children it tends to cause strokes or seizures.  Haleigh had brain surgery on September 4th and for an indefinite period will require ongoing medical checks for at least another year.

Blood transfusions potentially may be an important part of her ongoing medical if her blood counts decline or her immune system becomes compromised.

Less than 5% of the eligible population donates blood. All blood types needed. You can donate blood every 56 days.

If you have medical questions or have been out of the country since 1980, you can call The Blood Center’s Metairie Donor Center at 504/887-2833.

At least 48 hours in advance drink a lot of fluids to hydrate your veins. Plan to eat before donating otherwise you may not be able to donate blood.

A PICTURE ID IS REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF DONATION.

If you cannot donate blood, there are other options to help Contact Suzy Potter at (504) 939-9609 or spotter@thebloodcenter.org
