Scheduled Events and Bike Support

In the afternoon, NOLA Bike to Work Day will be the presenting sponsor of the YLC Wednesday At The Square. Stop by the Entergy booth for free refreshments, giveaways and information on how to save money, save energy and save the environment.
Mechanics will be on hand, both morning and afternoon in case you have bicycle issues on the way in – we can take care of them before you go home.

Commuter Tips

Bicycling to work is easy and safe. To have the best experience possible, follow the tips below:
  • Chat on Facebook to find a ride buddy or strategize your route. You can also plan a route with Google’s Bicycle Trip Planner or using the map above.
  • Act as if you were driving a vehicle – ride in the direction WITH traffic, stop at stop signs, be predictable
  • Routes that parallel busy streets are often better for bicycles. Look for smooth surfaces, low traffic speeds and volumes
  • Determine where you will store your bike while you work before you show up (many places have garage or locations inside!)
  • Wear comfortable clothing, it’s okay to change when you get to work
  • Make sure your bike is in working order the night before
Feeling a little hesitant? Check out one of our FREE Bicycle Safety Workshops before you ride.

Who:

NOLA Bike To Work Day is brought to you by Entergy Corporation, Bike Easy, Louisiana Public Health Institute, the City of New Orleans, Downtown Development District, and Young Leadership Council.

Why:

Greenhouse gas emissions resulting from our daily commutes are a leading cause of climate change. Biking to work is one way we can do our part to save money, save energy and save the environment.
Before Hurricane Katrina, Orleans Parish had fewer than 5 miles of bike lanes and pedestrian walkways. Thanks to a grant from Entergy Corporation and a partnership between the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Public Health Institute, the city now boasts 50 miles of completed bikeways and pedestrian walkways with another 20 miles planned or under construction. As a result, the City of New Orleans has been recognized as a Bronze Level Bike Friendly City by the League of American Bicyclists — joining other cities such as Portland, Boulder and Austin who are designated bike-friendly cities. Residents in metropolitan New Orleans can now access a growing bikeway network of more than 140 miles.

  • Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood.  But only 5% of the eligible US population donates blood in any given year.

  • Healthy donors are the only source of blood.

  • The Blood Center needs your help to supply our military in times of need. Help do your part to make sure that our service members have an adequate supply of blood when it is needed most.

  • Donating blood is both a simple and a powerful way to serve your community and allow you to get involved. Whether your office is large or small, you can make a difference!
